Today I was honored with the task of holding Declan Turners first interview following the end of his first world tour, Static & Stars.
We met in my office and discussed many different questions the world has.As we got started Declan shared his overwhelming gratefulness and love for his fans and the support his band has received. His band (DJRC) , which consists of 3 other members, Jack Frey (23), Colin Frey (22), and Rhys Maybury (23), was created in the basement of Declans family home when they were teenagers (17&18). As a way to focus their overwhelming energy, they started making music. Declan notes a funny memory from their first month making music
."We all are very energetic people, which is what made our friendship so great. We were always up for activities and adventures. One night, after about three weeks of playing different instruments and seeing what sounded good together, Jack turned to me and said 'Let's just take this to our favorite pub and see what happens'. We were all a little confused why we would take an uncompleted song, with no proper sound track and go perform it. Eventually though, he convinced us. We took a few shots for courage and headed to Marley's Pub. It was our worst performance ever, but people seemed to like our energy and the sound we were going for. What really made this so memorable is the next day Marley reached out to us, saying 'Kids, you know I mean this with love but last night was rough. All be it though, a few patrons have asked when your next show will be. I told them two weeks, so figure it out and I cant wait to see you guys again."Throughout the interview, Declan continued to share his morals and values. Why he does things like he does, his choice in organizations he works with. During this part of our conversation, despite Declans known lack of ability to stay on topic, I recognized the passion within him as he discussed his views on the world in the way he never once strayed from the conversation.

"I think its so important to talk about such matters, especially when you have a following or can reach many different parts of the world. Many people assume I am straight or that I don't know much about the community when they first get to know me, but that is not even close to reality. I am a huge part of the LGBTQ+ community, as both a queer person and an ally. I have many friends who are like family that are much bigger of a part of the community. I could never imagine not being in full support of them, or why it could upset people so much that LGBTQ+ people exist."When asked about rumors of a band mate being misogynistic, Declan was quick to put things to rest."We did discuss it personally, yes. I do not in any way condone such behavior, no matter how much someone means to me. Colin was in tears before I had even brought it up, expressing that the conversation 'proof' was not real. While discussing the matter Colin also shared, with a bit of prying, that the person spreading these rumors had been harassing him for months and faking messsages from him for weeks, this was just the first time they had gone viral. I do not feel comfortable sharing what exactly was the harassment unless Colin decides to tell the world first, but it was some very sick things being said to him. It is so sad that there is so much hate in this world. I have no problem checking people when things like this happen, as I refuse to surround myself with hateful people of any kind. There's too many good souls in this world to bother wasting time around the not so good ones."As our interview came to an end, Declan had one final message."To my friends and family, I truly could never have got here without you. Sebastian, Jack, Payton, Ezekiel, Leon, Rhys, Colin, Skylar, Theodore, Warren, Sterling, and my amazing girlfriend Andi, I love you all more than words could ever truly expllain. I am so blessed with my friends and hope you all know just how much you mean to me."
Tune in next week for a special edition where I answer questions that people have asked me :)
